For the Next Class

Keep up with the work and do not fall behind. Come to class everyday and take notes and listen to what Mrs. Belisle has to say because she will give you hints and help with your homework for that night. Putting things off until last minute is the worst thing you can do because you have forgotten what Mrs. Belisle talked about and it is not fun trying to figure things out without anyone's help.

My photo that lied

I chose to do this picture because it makes people laugh. The picture originated from the video game Mortal Kombat which 2 players fight each other to the death. I deleted one of the characters and put in Barney as the other fighter. I then added text to make the screenshot look like the game. I manipulated it because the character needed to be removed to make room for Barney. No the manipulation was not harmful because I am pretty sure that Barney the dinosaur's reputation will not be harmed by my photograph.

PP Blog

Garrett’s presentation not only gave me great information on Southwest, it also tuahgt me about a business perspective I did not know about. I have always thought of airlines as stuffy, corporate giants but now I know that Southwest is fun-loving airline. The visuals were stimulating and kept me very intersted in the presentation. Since my presentation was about teachers, I found Brianna’s presenation informative because the at-risk students is something that rarely gets financed by any legislation. Being in the public school system from K-5 and keeping friends throughout high school, I know how important it is to have good, influential teachers in your life.

PPT Necessities

The one thing I have always been taught is to keep the powerpoint SIMPLE yet INFORMATIVE. If you can keep both those things in a powerpoint, everyone comes away appeased. Using media other than simple bullet points makes the people more involved. Use the powerpoint as a notecard, do not put all your information on the powerpoint, keep the audience guessing. Like Seth Godin says, "Did your audience really have to come all this way to a meeting to listen to you read the slides? Why not just send them over?" I would rather have a title, one or two bullet points, and a picture/movie/gif than listen to another boring presentation where people are simply reading off the points. At the same time of keeping it fun and simple, you need to keep it informative. Yes, all your information may not be up on the presentation, but you need to be well-informed on the topic and be able to tell the audience about what you are trying to explain to them.

CLT Blog

CLT has some wonderful resources for students to use. The rent out digital cameras and video cameras since they understand that not all people can afford such technology. They have editing tools for music, movie, and photos. Bands can record their songs, bring it to CLT and edit their tracks to make the music sound better. If you are an aspiring director, CLT may have editing tools not available to you that are free to use. Not only does CLT seem to have everything, but the people who work there are helpful, too. The help desk will sit down and explain the finer points of things like iMovie or photoshop, or can help someone who’s just starting out and trying to figure out the new technology. Such friendliness only promotes the use of CLT and technology. Trinity’s resources never cease to amaze me, and with the addtition of CLT, I do not think there is a base they have not covered.

Reflection on Excel

The most important part of learning about Excel was the formulas. I came into the class knowing nothing about excel and thinking that the Excel portion would be us putting numbers into a data table. Thankfully, Excel has formulas and can drag the formulas over multiple cells so you do not have to repeat yourself! Now I know an easy way to use formulas other than constantly writing it out by hand. These formulas are easy in real life, but it is better when Excel can seemingly read your mind and calculate the formula for you and over what cells you want the formula in. It may seem simplistic, but Excel can save me a lot more time now that I know about the formulas.

Chris Nolan Presentation

The URL’s reflect the kind of site the web page promotes. If the URL is .gov, the government had a hand in putting up that website. The government is the only one who can put up a .gov website. If the URL is .org, an organiazation has put up the website. The organization can be anything from three people sititing in a cellar and being an organization to a refutable company like National Geographic. The organization is the one responsible for putting up the website. If the URL is .com, it is put up by a company like AT&T. Sometimes these sites have information you need, but you should know that these sites are biased towards the company’s views. Finally, if the URL is .edu, the website is related to a school, usually a college. Like Mr. Nolan said in class, some high schools have .edu URLs, but they will not have information to use like a college .edu website would have. A high school URL will be used for the school, but college URLs are used for many things, and when looking for a scholarly source, the .edu URL will lead to a study or an article published by the school. The URLs .edu and .gov are all American.
